ELECTION PROGRAMME ONE – INFORMATION

Clive Mason walks us through the maze of democracy.

Clive Mason explains the complex process of democracy, the voting process and the importance of your right to vote in this Election Special. It also features interviews with a number of experts in the field of politics.

This program makes use of in-vision signing, subtitles and BSL presenting to reach the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing audience. It features scenes shot on location in the beautiful Westminster Parliament Building and St Stephens Green. This program also includes a step-by-step guide to voting on the actual day of a general election for Deaf people.

Baroness Nicholson offers valuable insider insight into the relation between the House of Lords and the House of Commons and Harry Smith draws on years of experience as a Political Journalist to contribute to our understanding of the democratic process and the importance of voting.

Clive Mason – Clive has been presenting Deaf television in the UK for over 20 years. Clive Mason was the first Deaf long-standing BBC’s See Hear Presenter to use British Sign Language (BSL) on television. It was not until 2003 that BSL was recognised by the Government as a language.

Harry Smith – Harry Smith is the Westminster correspondent for STV News. He has an in-depth understanding of the political process and the importance of voting throughout the world.

Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne - Baroness Nicholson is a life peer in the House of Lords. She has also been a Member of Parliament and a Member of the European Parliament. She offers experienced and insider knowledge to the democratic process in the UK. She is a member of the Liberal Democrat Party.

Deputy Speaker Sylvia Heal – Sylvia Heal is the Labour MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis. She is also a Commons Deputy Speaker and offers some understanding into how the House of Commons operates.
