After two days getting into the rhythm of Charlie's writing and story telling- suddenly we're back to Rebecca Atkinson's Coming Home for one final day.
As soon as we finished in Suffolk, Matthew Gurney, flew to a wedding in Italy promising he would be back in good time for the filming in London. I told him I would kill him if he missed the plane. He turned up today looking great but not too pleased with me. I had promised to collect him from the tube station - then forgot to turn on my phone. When I did - I found a series of increasingly angry SMS from an abandoned Mr Gurney!!
Our location is quiet, has big rooms, good light, and is just perfect for Frank and Maureen - the adoptive parents of Matthew Gurney's character, Mark.
Bruce Alexander and Isabelle Amyes arrive early and have breakfast with the crew. Nice to see Isabelle again - we last worked together in 2005. I'd never met Bruce before but I am pleased he's involved in Coming Home as I really admire him as an actor. Over breakfast he told us that he just finished filming the last ever Touch of Frost. He's played the role of Inspector Mullet for seventeen years!
Feeding the crew is always a bit concern. It's Sunday so not very much open locally and very few places deliver. So, yesterday I went late night shopping and today I'm preparing a hot lunch here - a selection of things that just needs to be heated up. Simple!
LATER: Did I say simple? As my beautiful fish pie and the chicken with pasta were gently bubbling in the oven - the electricity went off!! A fuse had blown. Suddenly, I had a nightmare vision of the crew eating cold fish and stringy, tepid chicken - followed by an even more ghastly image of the whole crew stricken with food poisoning!
EVEN LATER: Panic over. Power, temper and equilibrium restored. It's all fine. Everyone is in the garden - eating a HOT lunch.
