Film Diary: Departure Lounge

Day Four: 20th July

Louis

We're back to Departure Lounge and back in South London. We're on the Springfield Hospital site but not filming on the ward. Today's filming is all to do with Matt's (David Sands) problematic home life with his girlfriend, Jill (Abigail Gorman). Their flat is actually that of a real hospital nurse. It looks just right for our couple but its tiny - and fitting the crew, the actors, the lights and everyone else inside is NOT easy.

David

Everyone interested to see how Abigail does today. The actress who we had originally cast in the part of Jill is ill. She sent Louis a SMS when we were filming in Suffolk and as Abigail was our second choice - I sent her a text asking if she would play the part. She agreed and turned up this morning - word perfect. Impressive.

Alison

The writer of Departure Lounge, Charlie Swinbourne, came briefly to the filming this morning as his baby daughter, Martha, is featured in two of the scenes.

I always feel a bit sorry for writers. They come up with the original idea, write the script and then have to give it up to producers and directors who might have a completely different idea of the characters, scenes and situations. Must be frustrating. Charlie wants to do more directing in the future which is, I suppose, the way to keep control of one's own work and vision.
