Our final guest today is the favourite Grandmother (or Auntie) of the Deaf Community, Wendy Daunt. She has worked all her life with Deaf people, supporting and encouraging hundreds of deaf children through their schooling and working tirelessly as a Committee Member and Trustee of two of the largest Deaf organisations in the UK, the British Deaf Association (BDA) and the Royal National Institute for the Deaf (RNID).
To find out more about their work, please visit their websites:
Wendy has been a tireless campaigner and organiser throughout her life. She has set up and organised many Deaf Cultural Festivals and Events throughout the UK and aims to encourage and facilitate Deaf people coming together and sharing their language, culture and history.
She has worked for the Royal School for the Deaf in Derby for many many years and in that time has developed the CHASE Video Productions, famous throughout the UK and the World for their BSL descriptions and translations of topics and events for deaf children.
Wendy is an avid photographer and is never found without her camera or video-camera. She feels it is vitally important for the future generations that we film and preserve our Deaf history and sign language so that people can see what we have achieved and where we have come from.
She's the lady we'd all like as our Auntie and let's see if she can take care of Julian today as he chats to her Under the Lamp.
