

Deaf surfer and lifeguard Harry Hilliar tells us about his passion for watersports and the environment whilst studying underwater Photography.
Harry has competed at the World Deaf Surf Championships in Haiwaii and he tells us what it is like to feel the roar of a wave and how his love of surfing leads him to the sea even in the British Winter!
Harry Hilliar can definitely be described as a 'Water-baby'! His love of the water and water sports has dominated his young life and led him to study a career that he hopes will take in his love of the water too!
Accomplished swimmer, lifeguard and surfer Harry Hilliar is from the Devon coast and lives near the sea - his spiritual home!
He is a strong swimmer which led him to compete for Great Britain at the Deaflympics in Melbourne in 2005. His love of the water and all water sports led him to try Surfing for which he found he has a natural aptitude. Harry spends hours practicing his moves, even in the sea during the British Winter time! Now that's dedication! Harry has competed at the World Deaf Surfing Championships in the warmer climate of Hawaii for which he finished 3rd! For his first competition, this is an amazing achievement - well done Harry!

Harry is a student at the renowned Plymouth College of Arts in his final year studying photography with a special option in underwater photography. His love of the water is never far away! Harry is fortunate to have found a career that he is passionate about, as it can be hard for young Deaf people to discover the right career path for them.
